NUEVAS IDENTIDADES
The 'Nuevas identidades' series explores the beauty of handcrafted female labor intertwined with innovation, illustrating how the integration of new technologies can enhance craftsmanship rather than replace it.
The primary inspiration comes from Japan, a country where tradition and modernity coexist in perfect harmony. Japan embodies the seamless union of the old and the new, reflecting how artisanal techniques can be elevated through innovation without losing their essence. This aesthetic and philosophical duality forms the visual and conceptual foundation of New 'Nuevas identidades'.

The intention of the work is to reclaim the value of female labor and to restore crochet to the recognition it rightfully deserves, highlighting its artisanal merit, cultural significance, and generational heritage.
This traditional technique, historically overlooked and undervalued, is elevated through the use of a material as luxurious and esteemed as gold.
It is a tribute to the memory of countless hands that have woven before us, to every story we weave today, and to every woman who leaves her mark on the next.

Orfresadas pieces, woven in gold in a non-traditional manner. The gold thread consists of a silk core covered with an ultra-thin layer of gold-plated metal that spirals around it.
Crocheting with this material requires a delicate crafting process, given its brittle and fragile nature, where a dialogue with the materials and technical mastery are essential.
The structure of the pieces is created through 3D printing with low-impact materials, the use of PLA infused with coffee grounds or orange peel reflects our commitment to sustainability and responsible production.
Yet, the artist’s touch remains, as all structures are hand-coated using the barrel technique and shaped tridimensionally through the application of heat.
Orfresadas: our own term referring to pieces crocheted in gold or silver thread using techniques non-traditional for these materials.
The term merges the concept of goldsmithing with textiles; its appearance may evoke filigree due to the delicacy of the finish. Here, instead of casting, we weave—reimagining the dialogue between goldsmithing and textile, between rigidity and flexibility, transforming textile into jewelry.
